About the EsF Assembly
The Educateurs sans Frontières Assembly is a unique two-week retreat for an international group of people who support children and families to flourish in all kinds of communities, by applying Montessori principles both within formal education and within the context of the community at large. Montessori’s profound contribution to the understanding of the child’s development and her commitment to champion the rights, education and welfare of children and families worldwide provides the foundation of the Assembly.

Eminent speakers present their work with an aim to deepen individual and collective understanding of essential Montessori principles through reflection and exchange. Participants will learn from one another and revisit principles and practices from the perspective of society at large, which will include discussions of Montessori-based initiatives as well as other social reform initiatives. Furthermore, site visits in the Stellenbosch region provide the opportunity to see and experience the potential of innovative social justice programmes in South Africa. Cultural activities will also be incorporated throughout the 2-week programme.

Participation
EsF Assemblies are open to anyone with an interest in Montessori education for social change. We aim to welcome a diverse group of participants, in terms of geographical representation, experience, interests and backgrounds. The group will be limited to approximately 80 people, in order to facilitate deep and meaningful discussion, interaction and reflection within the group. In order to optimize the EsF experience, participation will only be possible for the full two weeks. The intensive programme will include presentations, readings and discussions, while building in sufficient time for personal contributions and initiatives.

Practical Information
The Assembly will be held at the Sustainability Institute in the university town of Stellenbosch, which is approximately a 45-minute drive from the international airport of Cape Town, South Africa. Group accommodation will be provided in different locations in the beautiful Stellenbosch region, all situated within 15 minutes driving distance from the Sustainability Institute. Participants can choose either single or double room accommodation and will be assigned a room by the organizing committee, depending on availability. All venues offer good value and good quality, comfortable accommodation. Daily transportation between the Assembly venue and Accommodation venues will be arranged and are included in the participation fee.
